I had some free time over the long weekend and decided to tackle the issue with my Linux box. I started with a fresh install and downloaded the Fedora Friend script to resolve the issue with the repository as well as install the Ndiswrapper front end. Everything went without a hitch, I installed the windows driver but WiFi still didn't work I mucked about in the router configuration ( I have a Belkin router ) I found out that the channel used was 11 while the one in the WiFi config specified channel 1. I changed the channel to 11 and voila WiFi worked like a charm.

All was not well however as my keyboard now freezes after sometime, I am also trying to get the ATI drivers up and running on my laptop but haven't found much success with it.

to conclude before you go ahead with your WiFi install,

  1. Write down the WiFi config on your router.
  2. Start with a fresh install of fedora 6.
  3. Install kmod-ndis wrapper and nidswrapper using yum
  4. Install windows driver using the .inf file
  5. Go to network configuration and make sure the settings are right (refer to the channel setting, WPA settings and key from your router)
  6. Activate interface
  7. You are done :)
